Matthew Chambers

Matthew Chambers Ceramique Contemporaine 2024

Matthew Chambers – Twist (two tone), Private collection, courtsey Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste

Born in London in 1975, Matthew Chambers graduated from the renowned Royal College of Art in 2004. His work was acknowledged as early as 2006 by the Ceramic Review Prize, awarded within the Ceramic Art London fair. In 2009, he was distinguished as part of the 5th World Ceramic Biennale in Icheon, Korea, and chosen that same year for the Keramikmuseum Westerwald Prize in Germany. The striking circular-shaped stonewares that instantly bring to mind the « optical eye » of a camera’s lens originated from that period.

Listed by Artprice in 2023 among the current artists who « renew the image of ceramics », Chambers is undoubtedly a major player on the contemporary ceramics scene.

Matthew Chambers’s works are present in great private and public collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum of London, the Ariana Museum in Geneva and the National Ceramics Museum of Sèvres. In 2023, Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste offered him its first major solo exhibition in France. Matthew Chambers is now one of the gallery’s permanent artists.
