Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste is pleased to welcome Irish artist Sara Flynn’s first solo show in France. Known for her sculptural forms whose elegance and mastery earned her international acclaim, the 2017 finalist of the prestigious Loewe Craft Prize will present twenty-eight works, some of which completely new and unreleased, especially created for her French show.

Born in 1971 in Cork, Ireland, Sara Flynn was trained at the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork. In her first year of training, just as she intended to become a painter, she discovered ceramics, which quickly became her favourite material. She thus got her degree in Ceramic Design in 1998 and settled in Cork County where she opened her first studio. Today, Sara Flynn lives and works in Belfast.

Directly inspired by the British ceramic artists Hans Coper and Lucie Rie, Sara Flynn gradually liberated herself from functional ceramics and freed her artistic expression through porcelain. In 2005, she received the Design & Craft Council of Ireland’s Research and Development Award and embarked on a work evoking sculpture close to Richard Serra’s or Donald Judd’s minimalism, quickly coming up with her own aesthetics.

Sara Flynn’s work is displayed in numerous private and public international collections. Since 2012, the renowned London gallery Erskine, Hall & Coe has regularly featured her work in solo shows that have been met with increasing success.
