SARA FLYNN
Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste is pleased to represent the famous Irish artist Sara Flynn in France.
Known for her sculptural forms whose elegance and mastery earned her international acclaim, and 2017 finalist of the prestigious Loewe Craft Prize, Sara Flynn is an essential reference in contemporary artistic ceramics. Her works are in many private and public collections, such as those of the Art Institute of Chicago, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin, and the Devonshire Collection.
Sara Flynn works exclusively with porcelain. Her intimate connection with this material allows her to express her love of form, lines and volumes. The artist is all about lines; as if conversing with the material, she draws curves until they result in perfectly balanced constructions.
“I was incredibly lucky to count with the support of a certain number of people who believed in me and bought my artwork. The Duke of Devonshire began taking an interest in my work in the early 2010’s and has since then acquired many new pieces for the Devonshire Collection at Chatsworth House over the years. His collection of my work makes up a sort of “visual journal” that helps measure the evolution of my work. It boosts my confidence that my ceramics are featured in several great private collections such as young fashion designer Jonathan Anderson’s, for instance, or in museum collections. Today, I am no longer afraid to say that I sculpt. It is a big step forward, and I still have to improve and try to do better each time.”
