Flavie Van Der Stigghel
24 May – 3 July 2014
Born in 1984 in Apt in the Vaucluse, Flavie Van Der Stigghel showed an early talent for drawing, but since 2005, she has chosen to express herself through ceramic sculpture.
Self-taught, she worked and exhibited in the artists’ studios of the Alpilles where she refined and deepened her approach in the company of sculptor Guy Bareff and painter Gérard Drouillet.
In 2012 she was selected to exhibit within the framework of the A-Part- International Festival of Contemporary Art in Alpilles-Provence, which included a section dedicated to contemporary ceramics. Alongside works by artists such as Johan Creten, Elsa Sahal and Kristin Mc Kirdy, Flavie Van Der Stigghel’s sculptures distinguished themselves by their strength and mastery.
Today, the Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste presents her first solo exhibition ”Take off” by showing over twenty sculptures made between 2011 and 2014. These works represent the emerging work and first major accomplishments of an artist with a promising artistic future.

She speaks of her work with an uncommon joy. For Flavie Van Der Stigghel, clay is more than a mere vehicle for her art. It is a companion. She communicates with it and bestows on it a sense of humanity.
