Erna Aaltonen, Elo (la vie), 2015, grès, h. 31 x diam. 26 cm. Photo Johnny Korkman.

The annual opening programme, the Retrospective Exhibition of the Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste allows one to discover or re-discover the ceramic artists who have been the guests of the Toucy gallery over the previous year.

The choice of the work presented, most of which is made for the occasion, bears witness to the talent and the very specific universe of each artist.

Matthew Blakely created a new workshop where he built 3 kilns, one a wood-burning kiln in which he fires all his pieces. Blakely creates his own glazes from rock, earth and ash collected from different regions of England…

Karine Benvenuti has decided to show a selection of ceramic sculptures that reflect a steadily controlled gesture giving rise to new forms where the clay, folded over itself, makes us wonder what such delicately-glazed volumes of earth could contain…

Erna Aaltonen. Pure forms inspired by nature, finely worked surfaces as sober as graphs, subtle nuances of colour which change with the light, both classic and very contemporary, the pieces of Erna Aaltonen (born in Loimaa in 1951) have the elegant sobriety of timeless masterpieces…

Laurent Petit. A work both sculptural and pictorial in which the ceramist imposes his artistic style without rejecting the pottery tradition which has guided him towards his own language…

Alistair Danhieux. New pieces to discover, in which the artist has, for the first time, experimented with enamel whose light reveals the delicateness of the sculpted volumes.
