Nadia Pasquer - Nathalie Pierlot

February 25 - March 30, 2023

For its reopening after the annual February closure, the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste in Toucy pays tribute to its roots in Puisaye, the land of potters, with the presentation of recent works by ceramist Nathalie Pierlot, who also runs the Ratilly stoneware manufacturing company and is one of the founding members of the Toucy-based gallery. The artist magnifies the work of Puisaye stoneware, reinterpreted with strength and subtlety. The bamboo vases she used last year for the gallery's 25th anniversary exhibition are back with a vengeance, and the appearance of brightly-colored glazes is confirmed. Nervous graphic signs streak the lighter surfaces or those left free by the heavy glaze thicknesses.

Nathalie Pierlot's work is shown alongside that of ceramist Nadia Pasquer, also a permanent artist at the gallery, who lives and works near another famous potter's territory in La Borne (Cher). First presented at the gallery in 2013, the work of Nadia Pasquer (b. 1940) occupies a unique place on the contemporary ceramics scene. Her monochrome polyhedrons, in black or white, evoke celestial bodies and constellations.
At first glance, the ceramic duo may seem to present two radically opposed universes, but the story told by Nadia Pasquer and Nathalie Pierlot is a dialogue without dissonance - a dialogue in which they share a perfect fidelity to their artistic line, above and beyond fashions and trends. The result for each of them is the expression of a ceramic language that has asserted itself over time.
