For her second solo show at Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste, Karine Benvenuti has brought together a group of ceramic sculptures that bear witness to a mastery of gesture that has given rise to new forms in which the material, folded in on itself, lets us dream of the possible contents of these delicately glazed earthen volumes.
I look at today's pieces, and I see that freedom is there... I see that gestures are not limited; that, in the rigor that characterizes the artist, the colombin allows her today what the mass allowed her yesterday; that we read in the variety of grounds and their thicknesses a development of the physical dialogue she maintains with the earth. And we recognize, in the reversals, the stretching, the thwarted flaring - these lips or eyelids always present, folded in on themselves, and tending to close - this same constant curiosity, the same exploratory avidity.
