David Miller

Miller PAGE

Discovered by Isabelle Brunelin at Galerie Pierre in Paris, David Miller (1942-2008) first exhibited his "nouvelles terres vernissées" in Toucy in 2002. Born in London, but Mediterranean by adoption, he expresses his pleasure at living under the Provencal sky in ceramics of exceptional vitality. Like a calligrapher or action painter, David Miller fully expresses space. His broad waves of color expand, rhythm, invade and become themselves, space and light. David Miller exhibited again in Toucy in 2007 to mark the gallery's 10th anniversary. He died suddenly the following year. The Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste will dedicate a tribute exhibition to him in 2016. A work by the artist recently joined the CNAP collection.

For him, "modern" and "traditional" were not contradictions, not hierarchies or incompatibilities. David Miller was as modern as he was traditional, an artist of the applied arts as much as of the free arts. He was equally at home in genres and techniques, which he exercised with sovereignty and which he knew how to connect quite seamlessly." Marianne Heller, Heller Gallery, Heidelberg, Germany.
