Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste is delighted to present the first solo exhibition in France of Hungarian ceramic artist Pálma Babos, winner of several international awards in ceramics and industrial design for her white porcelain skyscraper structures, symbols of a self-destructive world.

Pálma Babos's architecture is organic. Buildings lean, bend, tilt, twist and warp. Before ruin. The artist sculpts chaos. Yet paradoxically, her works exude an impression of serenity, as if the underlying violence were soothed by the sensuality of the material, the calm of the surface, that immaculate white which, through the interplay of light and shadow, is tinged with grey.
The phantasmagorical character of her buildings is reminiscent in some respects of the blurred urban paintings of painter Philippe Cognée, and the asymmetry of her compositions recalls the unstructured lines of architect Frank Gehry. But it's poetry that Pálma Babos prefers to refer to. "I could compare my creative process to writing a sonnet, controlled by strict rules and discipline", she says. At the crossroads of sculpture and design - the artist also produces mural works, some of which are exhibited in Toucy - each work results from the complex assembly of a multitude of clay tablets. Delicately, floor by floor, the edifice rises and grows. Before the firing process freezes it at the very limit of its equilibrium.
