French ceramic artist Gisèle Buthod-Garçon returns to the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste with an exhibition featuring her new series of sculptures in the spirit of the territories she has been exploring for several years, at the crossroads of sensibility and memory.
Exhibited at the Musée de La Piscine in Roubaix in 2013-2014, Gisèle Buthod-Garçon's work here is fully expressed in abstract or suggestive forms, highlighted by nuanced engobes or enveloped in sensual enamel.
Gisèle Buthod-Garçon is an adventurer in contemporary raku (a low-temperature stoneware firing process invented in 16th-century Japan). For the past thirty years, she has been tracking down the possibilities of raku, ploughing her furrow with determination and constancy; her paths of exploration are marked by "signs of the trail" to help interpret her creations.
Gisèle Buthod-Garçon's elegant, powerful work can be found in all the world's leading collections. The exhibition brings together some twenty works presented in the catalog published for the occasion.

This is the fourth time in fifteen years that the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste has presented the ceramic work of Gisèle Buthod-Garçon. Comprising some twenty recent pieces, the exhibition bears witness to the artist's research, both current and eternal. Some subjects are never exhausted. As soon as an artist chooses to decipher life and translate its states (quietude, serenity...), its sensations (breeze on water, ethereal shimmers, light on bark, "the sound of time"...), as soon as he intends to give a form and a face to what is greater than oneself, to the unspeakable, to the immemorial trace of human fragility, he can only humbly take up the path of a work sketched out a thousand times. This is where Gisèle Buthod-Garçon aspires to remain, at the height of contemplation.
