Turi Heisselberg Pedersen

Right before our eyes

May 4 - July 4, 2024

Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste presents for the first time the celebrated Danish ceramist Turi Heisselberg Pedersen who will be unveiling some fifteen previously unseen works. " In recent years, I've been developing a sculptural expression in which forms resemble irregular asymmetrical structures and orders found in nature, such as strict crystal forms or growing organic structures",says Turi Heisselberg Pedersen of her work. These are not direct reproductions of nature, but rather abstractions of states and forms in nature. A kind of embedded memory of phenomena and small incidents that takes place in nature.
The artist strives to convey the appeal of nature, its beauty, but also its irregularities, its ugliness, in order to underline the human relationship with the natural. Throughout cultural history, art has always been concerned with nature, from ancient representations of cultivated fields, flowers or animals to idealized romantic notions of man and nature and our current paradoxical relationship with it. Turi Heisselberg Pedersen's work is inspired by this observation.

“We have become alienated from nature. There are entire universes of natural processes and species that you may not see or even know exist. We see nature, the earth, mainly as resources and materials that exist for us and not as something with value in themself. But what if we look beyond ourselves and observe all the different natural phenomena that unfold right before our eyes?”
