Marie Pierre Méheust
Glazed earthenware
July 5 - September 4, 2014
Marie-Pierre Méheust
From July to September 2014, the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste - dedicated to artists who have chosen earth as their medium - welcomes a renowned glazed earth artist in the person of Marie-Pierre Méheust, who signs her third exhibition at the Toucy gallery. The gallery is determined to highlight the artist's figurative expression, which is often copied but never equalled. With a real talent for drawing, Marie-Pierre Méheust sketches her characters and scenes with a determined stroke on a slate or notebook, before giving them shape in earthenware that is modelled and then decorated. In Marie-Pierre Méheust's universe, human beings and animals are often brought together, journeying together towards the same adventure tinged with humor and poetry. Evoking a thirty-five-year creative journey that led to her entry into the collections of the Musée National de Sèvres.
I drew my first inspiration from the plant and animal worlds, which is why I like to combine these two themes with the essential human one... Mixing and matching them until they drift into a poetic, offbeat and humorous universe...
