Martha Pachon Rodriguez

March 31 - May 10, 2012

The Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste, dedicated to contemporary ceramics, is keen to offer a wide range of artistic practices in the field of clay, and includes internationally renowned ceramists in its programming. The gallery's first guest this spring 2012 is Colombian-born ceramist Martha Pachon Rodriguez, who lives and works in Italy. Her elaborate work with colored-in-mass porcelain has been the subject of numerous prestigious prizes and awards over the last ten years, and the artist is currently on all the major international venues where contemporary ceramics are showcased. Her exhibition at Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste is her first major solo show in France. Martha Pachon Rodriguez creates sculptures with pure, streamlined lines, but whose material is complex, made up of multiple small fragments like porcelain needles shaped by hand with patience and meticulousness. The imaginary forms are sensual and evoke an erotic universe claimed by the artist (the works are called "breast-bearings", "objects of seduction", "journeys", etc.). Through the play of openings and perforations, Martha Pachon Rodriguez evokes the interiority of the piece, a mysterious and unknown world, between nature and artifice, golden scales, geometries and mingled colors.

Creating work for Martha Pachon Rodriguez is an event that represents a journey containing a sacred dimension, a magical, cathartic rite, an intellectual experience that demands time, great patience, mastery and joy.
