Ursula Morley-Price retrospective at the MAM in Troyes in 2013
Since its opening in 1982, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes has constantly enriched the viewpoints on modern art proposed by its founders, Pierre and Denise Lévy, by developing an original programming and acquisition policy. The revival of twentieth- and twenty-first-century decorative arts has been one of the focal points of this cultural policy. For the past four years, fire art has been at the heart of the museum's activities.
In 2013, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Troyes joined forces with the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste in Toucy en Puisaye (Yonne) to present a retrospective of Ursula Morley-Price's work.
English-born painter and ceramist Ursula Morley-Price has lived and worked in France since 1973. A graduate of the Camberwell School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, she has been pursuing an international career as a ceramic artist for forty years. Her exceptionally fine stoneware is akin to the refined art of paper folding. Her work is represented in numerous museums in Europe and the United States.
The exhibition brings together a selection of some eighty unique pieces created by the artist between 1968 and 2013. For this first French retrospective, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes has acquired three recent pieces by the artist. Two of them (Large Twist Form and Large Mouth Form) were acquired by the city of Troyes in association with the Friends of the museum, the third (Plume de Fontaine) is offered to the museum by the Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste.
