Sara Flynn
May 15 - June 30, 2021
Sara Flynn - Flection Vessel, 2021, N°19 - 16 - 3, glazed porcelain, 2021, from 21 to 26.2 cm
Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste is pleased to welcome Irish artist Sara Flynn’s first solo show in France. Known for her sculptural forms whose elegance and mastery earned her international acclaim, the 2017 finalist of the prestigious Loewe Craft Prize will present twenty-eight works, some of which completely new and unreleased, especially created for her French show.
The last works featured at Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste go further still into this process. Sara Flynn shows greater audacity in the folds, twists and both subtle and assertive movements, carefully shaping her pieces by pinching, warping and decentring the original form until she obtains sensual curves that delight the eye. The meticulous attention given to lines thus offers a subtle play on light and shadow, magnified by the purity of colours. She builds sculptural forms whose movement is ingeniously brought to life by the black or white monochrome glaze.
The works presented at Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste take this approach even further. Sara Flynn is even bolder in her subtle yet confident folds, twists and movements. She meticulously shapes her pieces by pinching, distorting and off-centering the original form until sensual curves are achieved that delight the eye. Meticulous attention to line creates a subtle interplay of light and shadow, magnified by the purity of color. The artist builds sculptural forms whose movement is subtly animated by the monochrome black or white enamel.

Sara Flynnclikes to say that porcelain is like a friend she spends most of her time with. Someone close, but whose personality, secrets and contradictions she uncovers day after day. A friend who must be listened to in order to be understood. Today, Sara Flynn is renowned internationally. Some of her works are featured in the collections of the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Art Institute of Chicago. Yet she does not let success get to her head. In the privacy of her Belfast studio, the artist unabatedly continues learning and searching but also making mistakes, so as to keep progressing.
