Ursula Morley-Price - Brown Round Blade Form, 2016
For the third time at the Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste, the Franco-British artist, Ursula Morley-Price, is unveiling her most recent works, fifteen pieces on the theme of renewal, particularly thrown into relief by this now octogenarian who is clearly displaying her age and that the mastery of her art remains unaffected.
Faithful to its formal variations which evoke movement, Ursula Morley-Price here revisits the straight fin shapes of the 2000s after having developed the waved Twist Forms for his previous solo show of 2014. " "I have created shapes like pods as well as rounded shapes, and the life starts in the hollows of this sculpture and blossoms into wide waves along the entire length of the edge, with these waves finally running to the foot of this ceramic sculpture. Life bursts forth and takes root.” comments the artist.
Ursula Morley-Price’s work has been the subject of numerous personal exhibitions in Europe and the US, and a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in Troyes in 2013; her works belong to numerous private and public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art of New York, and the Cité de la Céramique in Sèvres.

One might think that at the venerable age of eighty, which the artist proudly embraces, Ursula Morley-Price would have done it all, said it all, experienced it all, and that stoneware, her favourite clay, would hold no secrets for her, but it is nothing of the sort. Her art keeps evolving, on the contrary, becoming more refined and more powerful with time. Slowly, steadily.
“Just like an actor shaping their art, I move forward, I try new things then move even further, and I am ever evolving ,all the while remaining myself. My works get bigger and bigger, but also more and more complex”, the ceramist explains with as much enthusiasm and energy as ever, just a few weeks before the opening of her third personal exhibition at the Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste in Toucy, where she is presenting eighteen new pieces that took her a year and a half to complete.
